My mother awoke me this morning with a text telling me that it was his birthday (which I of course knew) and that he doesn’t look 49.
possibilitiesof:
Happy 49th Birthday, John Cameron Mitchell! One of the most cherished moments of my life will forever be kissing John Cameron Mitchell through a car window in front of a sleazy gay bar in Jacksonville.
I can’t even handle this! They are both so adorable.
Day one of John Cameron Mitchellathon was a success. It was super cool, there were some technical problems during Shortbus and the preshow and unnecessary intermission for Hedwig were atrocities even for drag humor, but outside from that it was awesome. Elaine and I got to hang out with the Pauls for a while and from our pictures with PJ we can see that there is a reason Elaine is not a photo major. And we of course got to meet John Cameron Mitchell who couldn’t have been nicer! Tonight was a hoot, and in conclusion we can’t wait for tomorrow.
I saw (thanks to my GoogleAlert set for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”) that JCM is doing a little show at this cute theater in Jacksonville, which is only two hours from me! He’s screening Hedwig and Shortbus one night, and then two of his personal favorite movies the next. I am literally SO EXCITED. I have to sit down and organize my thoughts so that I don’t say something stupid to him. All I really want to do is hug him and say Thank You.
I can’t even fathom being able to solidify words near him!
Another weird, beloved posession.
At the point in my life when I was watching every movie featuring John Cameron Mitchell I could find, Band of the Hand popped up. This is, without a doubt, the absolute worst film I’ve ever endured for one of my weird obsessions. And that’s really saying something (I’m looking at you, All the Queen’s Men, starring Eddie Izzard!!)
The best thing about this movie, is the following quote from a review on Netflix: ““The scenery and photography is artistic and beautiful but not so artistic that it would be considered artsy.”And at least JCM is so fucking cute with is little red hair and drawn on tattoos.
So anyways, imagine my surprise when I found the soundtrack to Band of the Hand on vinyl at a local record shop, for only a dollar! I’ve never actually listened to it, but I like that it’s an obscure inside joke I have with only myself, and my pretend best friend John Cameron Mitchel.
I could not stop laughing through this, because this is exactly what Elaine is like. Which is why I love her.
